Moving on to a next chapter

Yes we did it! 

We moved to Indonesia for the next step of hopefully growing our business more. 

Our "Marapulai" and "Rangkayo" working space with our shoemaker and workers and our shoe store is here. Ilham already go back (from Germany) to Indonesia last year in July 2014. I had to finish my study in Germany first, so I graduated with a Master degree in March 2015. 

Happy to have my Master and full of hope for our business, I am now in Indonesia, too. So we start our life here from beginning all new. That´s why we don´t write here for a longer time. We are sorry keep you waiting.

Marapulai working space is open again

LATEST NEWS! Our shoe working space is open again!

We are proud to tell you, that after a time of restructuring and renovation, we can accept customer orders again. So if you like to have Marapulai shoes in your shoe size, please contact us.

Currently we have a few models of the last collection and some of the new designs in Hamburg in stock. Some new designs are in our work area in Indonesia, also the pre-orders are made.

The Marapulai shoes are made in a fair handmade work as a team with our shoemaker in our own small studio in Indonesia. We have shoe sizes EU 36 - 49 (US 5 - 14), on request special orders to EU 50 (US 15) are possible.

Our news about our life and Marapulai in 2014

Me (Ilham) and my wife (Saskia) are doing our business as a start up since 2011 to built up our dream of being creative entrepreneurs. I am a studied product designer and product maker. I have a bachelor degree from Indonesia and master degree from germany. I am living in germany for the last around 9 years and married with my wife in 2010 in germany. First I am doing my handmade business as a side job and now I am already quit my dayjob and trying to live from our handmade brand Marapulai. My wife is doing her last 3 month of studying cultur science and is helping me every minute she can to do the marketing, advertising, client connection, udating the online shops and writing the story about our business. So I can concentrate on the shoe designing and making process.

We have planned to move to Indonesia to live there for a while. We have there our shoe working space and we want to fully concentrate on making Maraulai Shoes. So now I am already moved to Jakarta, Indonesia since one week and my wife is moving here in three month after finishing her study in germany, too. That´s why we have some of our items shipped from Germany and some from Indonesia. Also I have handcrafted the leather tablet bags, purses, luggage tags and so on by my own in my living room, because in germany our appartement was too small for a whole room as a working space.

The process of making the shoe design, pattern, buying the leather and making the shoes with the help of a learned shoemaker in our own working space to sew on the machine. The shoes are handmade in our working space: We attached some pictures of our working space and our working process. Step by step you see how the single parts of the shoes are fitting together.

Rock for Good - Charity Concert in Hamburg

We support the project "Rock for Good".

"With a mission in support of education in remote areas of Indonesia, the Associations of Indonesian students in Germany form a team to organize a benefit concert with Andra & The Backbone and Ari Lasso.
 

As a teenager ... who have the opportunity to study abroad, where there are adequate facilities for learning for everyone, we feel very sad. We want to make a small step forward and do something meaningful, to change the status quo in Indonesia. We want our brothers / sisters help the nation to raise awareness of the poor learning conditions and to pursue fundraising to "Indonesia Mengajar" to support movement. Above all we want with this concert as our agent, to inspire others to take care of education in Indonesia. So please support us with rock music for a good cause! "

There will be a concert in summer 2013 in Hamburg and one in Karlsruhe. Ticket sales will begin soon. If you have interest to attend one of the concerts, you can subscribe to the reminder you like so you can inform the organizers. There will be a big indonesian market at one day called Pasar Hamburg on the 1 of june 2013 in Hamburg.

Leben&Art am Duvendahl opening 15.12.2012

Today was a great day for our friends Rosemarie & Markus and us and of course all of the other sellers of "Leben&Art am Duvendahl" in Stelle (near Hamburg), because it was the opening of the lovely community store.

Many people were coming to the opening on 15. December 2012 and were enjoying the program with percussion session, Santa Claus, live music and beverages.

The old "Shoes, Kids & Fashion" store in Harburger Str. 1, 21435 Stelle is history. 

Now Stelle has a new store for adults and kids with many handmade things on 195 m² of retail space. I only can say, "Shopping can be lovely".

You are invited to visit "Shoes, Kids & Fashion" were you also can find Marapulai shoes, shoes and clothing for children, women`s fashion and accesoires.

Marapulai was at Leben&Art exhibition

Last Sunday we were at the new exhibition Leben&Art at Burg Seevetal with our Marapulai shoes. There were about 35 sellers with kids shoes, leather accessories, small wool animals, sweet chocolate, paintings, photographer and much more. And although it was one of the late last hot summer days, visitors were coming to join us. We had a nice and entertaining day; meeting customers, other handicraft businesses and friends. 

Organizer Rosemarie Darboven said "Leben&Art is a common, new project on the southern outskirts of Hamburg, an exhibition by people for people. An event that is still growing and lives of our and your enthusiasm."

Monday Urban Moments - Marapulai @NGADUide12

Today we report of the NGADUide#12, which was held on 7th September 2012 in Bandung, Indonesia. The Topic "Opportunities and Culture in Europe" - Opportunities in the European market.

New shoe sizes for Marapulai

If you already looked into our Marapulai online shop and like to have a pair Marapulai shoes, but you missed the small shoe sizes like 37 or big sizes like 47... then we have news for you now!

Here you can see, that we are right now working on the shoe lasts for more shoe sizes. The shoe lasts are made of wood and plastic. Let´s see in the next weeks, which shoe prototypes we made with this shapes.

Monday Urban Moments - Transportation

When you are on the way through Jakarta, you see really weird and funny transportation variations. Here in Germany you think, you always need a car for transporting a washing machine?! No you don´t, but if you try this in Germany, I think you have to pay.

In Indonesia, no one says, it is impossible to carry anything on a motorcycle.

And for animals of course you need a bigger vehicle. A pick up car is enough, just like you can see here a cow and three buffaloes.  Just watch and enjoy!
